Why should I be using cuticle oil?

Most people wouldn't even know what cuticle oil is, what it's used for and how often it should be used but I'm here to help you with that!

Let me start by explaining what cuticle oil is. It's a beautiful blend of thoroughly nourishing oils and ingredients. When applied directly to the cuticle area and surrounding skin, it hydrates and locks in moisture.

Your cuticle is the dead skin that naturally forms on the surface of the nail plate as the nail grows, on some peoples nails more than others and it isn't always noticeable until your nail tech starts the prep work for your manicure or pedicure. Cuticle oil can help to reduce this.

Cuticle oils come in a few different formats but my faves at the moment are CND Solar Oil small pinkie bottle or pens that both neatly fit in your handbag for anytime application!

The ideal use for cuticle oil is twice daily to keep your nails supple thus more flexible therefore less risk of breaking/peeling etc, the cuticle (dead skin on nail plate) will reduce and can help the proximal nail fold (the skin at the base of the nail on the finger) to shrink back, keeping both skin and nails in great condition.

If all the reasons above are not enough to convince you then let me tell you that nails are formed of keratin, the same material as your hair so let me ask you - would you skip using conditioner on your hair?? The answer is NO, because it would become brittle, break more easily and be open to all the elements that can cause further damage. The same principles apply to your nails, so why would you not use cuticle oil??? It's absorbed by the nails and/or nail coating and absorbed right into the nail! By keeping the nail coating hydrated you will reduce the risk of chipping and cracking - what's not to love!

You may think that any moisturiser will do the same job, however this is not the case as only certain cuticle oils are specifically designed with smaller molecules to penetrate even the deepest layers of the nail rather than just the surface layer.
